Eco leather
Eco-leather is a synthetic material made from polyurethane. It most often replicates the look of natural leather, providing a cheaper alternative. However, its properties allow for a wider range of possibilities, as eco-leather can look like e.g. canvas, rubber, rusty sheet metal or even the surface of stone. Eco-leather requires no special care and is easy to clean.
How do you care for PU leather?
Using eco-leather accessories outdoors can weaken the structure of the material. Such factors as sunlight or air humidity affect its condition. It is good practice to periodically wipe the eco-leather products with a well-drained sponge (soapy water is sufficient) and then dry them thoroughly with a dry cloth. It is important not to use products containing oil, as this material does not have the same properties as natural leather, in extreme cases it may even damage the structure of the eco-leather.
. Eco-leather is particularly susceptible to very high temperatures, so avoid leaving accessories near barbecues or other heat-generating equipment. Any damage caused by high temperatures is irreversible and very visible. The same applies to low temperatures, which cause the material to harden and thus make it more susceptible to cracking. Accessories should be stored in darkened, dry places.
Methods for cleaning PU leather
Important information
The rules described do not apply to applied logos, which are much more susceptible to dissolving and washing off, in the case of decorations such as hot stamping with coloured foil or printing. Such areas should not be cleaned, but only wiped very gently with a cotton cloth and clean water.
Eco leather does not require the use of specialised cleaners, so in the case of hard-to-clean stains, more aggressive preparations can be used. Before use, make sure that the product does not contain corrosive substances. For everyday use, water, soap, dishwashing liquid and the same agents used for cleaning natural leather (excluding those based on oils and other fats) are sufficient. It is best to use cotton cloths and sponges for cleaning.
